The Benevento - Vitulano cycle path encompasses the landscape and natural setting of the ancient Samnium, a history-rich area between Campania, Molise and Abruzzo.
Located in the enchanting area known as the “Gran Dormiente”, bordered by the River Calore, this fascinating route runs for almost 8 km through a natural landscape that embraces the historic city of Benevento. It offers a unique opportunity to explore and appreciate the area’s tranquil beauty.

The cycle path, built from a section of the “Alifana” railway that once connected Caserta, Benevento and Foggia, extends between Benevento and Vitulano, following the River Calore through the magnificent “Samnite countryside”.

The cycle and pedestrian path is suitable for all and contained in a protected area. It follows the gentle slopes of the former railway, where you will be surrounded by green hills covered with cultivated fields, vines and trees, losing yourself in the gorges bordering the loops of the River Calore, and the majestic town of Castelpoto. A variety of wetland plants, remarkable water birds, and animals will accompany you, along with absolute and rare silence.
