Paestum

Overview

A suggestive journey through time

In the magical Cilento there is a place of pure charm, capable of transporting you to Magna Graecia: it is Paestum, the ancient Poseidonia. Located in the easternmost part of the Gulf of Salerno, 10 kilometers from the mouth of the Sele River, it boasts a millennial history, which literally leaves you speechless.

Walking in the archaeological area between the imposing temples of Poseidon, Hera and Athena - the best preserved in the world, together with those of Athens and Agrigento - you will be amazed by the original intrusion of the Sand Horse, a contemporary sculpture by Mimmo Paladino, about 4 meters high, depicting the mythological Pegasus.

Do not miss the Archaeological Museum, one of the centers of cultural life of Paestum, custodian of metopes, figurative panels and the precious Tomb of the Diver, as well as the Narrating Museum of the Sanctuary of Hera Argiva, set up in an old restored farmhouse, near the mouth of the Sele River, which with videos, installations and 3D reconstructions tells the discovery of the sanctuary.

Finally, make a stop at the Archaeological Area of Velia, cradle of the Eleatic School, with its acropolis surrounded by walls and the magnificent Red Door, the oldest Italian example of a round arch.
