Marina di Casal Velino

Overview

One of the most famous locations on the Cilento coastline

Situated halfway between Marina di Pioppi and Marina di Ascea, Marina di Casal Velino is one of the best known villages in Cilento and lies within the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park. Popular for its sandy shoreline, it boasts a long coastline with many lidos, but there is also a free beach. Leaving the marine centre, you come to the Fossa dell'Elice and the Piane descent, both characterised by pebbles and boulders, and ideal for those who love wild, unspoilt landscapes. Proceeding further, you reach the characteristic beaches of Pioppi, whose waters have often been awarded Legambiente's "5 sails" and the Blue Flag accolade.

At the port, one of the main connection points on the Cilento coastline, you can rent dinghies or set off on boat trips to see the Amalfi Coast. Don't forget to visit the village and in particular the Casal Velino Paese Terrace. From here, there is a spectacular view from the Gulf of Velia to Cape Palinuro. In the old village, with its alleyways, buildings, walls, gates and ancient arches, you can also visit the small Museo della Casa Contadina (Museum of the Peasant House), an old rural dwelling where the rooms, furniture and utensils typical of a rural dwelling are displayed, bearing witness to the life of the local population in the past.
