Buccino

Overview

The ancient Volcei

On the border between Campania and Basilicata, the small village of Buccino is the ideal destination for those looking for an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city and the rhythms of everyday life. Here, you can relax, savor the slow pace of life in a small village in the province of Salerno and alternate cultural visits with nature excursions.

Discover the history of Buccino, the ancient Volcei, or “volcano”, at the Archaeological Museum, which collects important testimonies from the third millennium B.C. The Museum is set up in the former convent of the Hermits of Sant'Agostino. After visiting the collections, breathe the clean air of the village in the cloister of the former convent, with its 23 columns surmounted by Corinthian capitals.

To complete your journey into the past of Buccino, stop also at the Ancient Volcei Urban Archaeological Park and the Via Egito rock complex. The Norman Castle dates back to the 12th century, of which you can still admire the imposing square keep and the walls.
