Chapel of San Giuseppe

Overview

In 1735, a chapel dedicated to San Giuseppe was constructed near the noble palace of the Bigotti family, an important family in the area. The Bigotti family was in close contact with the Paduan Carthusians, and this chapel represents one of the most remarkable examples of Baroque architecture in the Vallo di Diano. The façade is framed by concave and convex elements and, in the upper part, the vaults highlight the technical and artistic skills employed by stonemasons in the use of local stone. On the inside, stucco and wooden inlays alternating with polychrome marble decorate the altar, while pilasters and Corinthian capitals grace the exterior.
