Miseno

Overview

Miseno, a seaside hamlet in the municipality of Bacoli, has a history that is intertwined with myth and legend: its name, from the Latin 'sinus militum', is quoted by the great Virgil, who tells of Miseno, Aeneas's trumpeter buried here after defying Triton and, looking at Cape Miseno, with its flat top, it actually seems as if one is standing in front of a tumulus. Always linked to the sea, Miseno was a busy port as early as the 4th century B.C., and even today the sea remains its essence, the heart of its identity. A spectacular view can be enjoyed from Monte Procida, with Cape Miseno, Posillipo and Vesuvius in the background, and the symbol of the village is its lighthouse: several films have been shot here and its view is a perpetual tale of sea voyages, a call to sailors and a metaphor for life at sea.
