Fusaro Vanvitelliana Lodge

Overview

The splendour of Late Baroque

Campania is a region with a priceless historical and artistic heritage and the Phlegraean Fields, the volcanic zone by the Tyrrhenian Sea on the Gulf of Pozzuoli, is one of the areas most representative of this wealth. Amidst nature areas and archaeological parks of rare splendour, there is also a jewel of late Baroque architecture that has been standing since the end of the 18th century onthe islet of Lake Fusaro, the largest of the Phlegraean Lakes.

The Vanvitelliana Lodge was built starting in 1782 by Carlo Vanvitelli, son of the architect of the Royal Palace of Caserta, at the request of Ferdinand IV of Bourbon as a resting place after the King's hunting and fishing trips. The elegant two-storey, twelve-sided building is reached by walking along a long wooden pier from the lake shore.

Today, the entire structure can be visited from Friday to Sunday thanks to the Pro Loco of Bacoli. A destination not to be missed, perhaps on an out-of-town trip in Campania to see the Phlegraean Fields and the Fusaro lakeside.
