Borgo Marinari

Overview

On the Islet of Megaride, close to the famous Castel dell'Ovo, stands Borgo Marinari, entirely surrounded by the sea and connected to the city of Naples by a very thin artificial isthmus. Once a settlement of Basilian monks, of which the Church of San Salvatore remains as a testimony today, the village was later fortified and increasingly developed its sea-related activities, in particular fishing and, until the 1990s, cigarette smuggling, now completely eradicated. Borgo Marinari is now a place of culture, art and tourism and its activities are concentrated around the small port, where life bustles and tales of the sea intertwine with the lapping of the waves. In addition to the castle, the elegant palaces and the many shops and nautical workshops are worth a visit.
