Overview
For centuries, indeed millennia, the fumaroles emanating from the volcanic soil of the Campi Flegrei have ensured the availability of thermal water. With the decline and fall of the Roman Empire, the organised structures that could be visited ceased to be used, and only briefly did the area become known again for these reasons during the period of the Grand Tour.
The rediscovery of the Silviana spring, however, initiated the construction of a new modern facility after the mid-20th century: the Terme Stufe di Nerone at Lake Lucrino. Access to several pools with different water temperatures can be booked, but there are also thermal showers, a Kneipp path and Jacuzzis. The sudatoria of antiquity has been replaced by a calidarium that has the effects of a natural sauna. Locals also praise its pleasantness and authenticity.
