Castelsaraceno

Overview

At just under 1000 metres above sea level, halfway between the Pollino National Park and the Lucanian Apennines-Val d\'Agri-Lagonegrese park, the village of Castelsaraceno is a paradise for those who love sports and outdoor activities, with forests, streams and truly idyllic pastures.

Here is the longest Tibetan bridge in the world, connecting the two parks: 586 metres long, 1160 steps to be covered with bated breath and slowly, admiring the spectacle all around. But the outdoor activities don\'t end here: trekking and climbing, mountain biking, walking and Nordic walking, rafting along the Pollino rivers... you won\'t get bored.

Culture and traditions are preserved and enhanced in the Pastoralism Museum, which presents the local identity in an innovative and emotional way. In the old town, with small houses clinging to the rocks, winding streets and ancient buildings, the Santo Spirito mother church stands out.

Among the typical delights to sample in the village, are ‘Nnuglia, a sausage of slightly spicy tradition, and Tortano, produced in a circular shape prepared from bread dough, to be accompanied perhaps by cheeses.

Events worthy of note are the ‘Ndenna Festival (in June), an event steeped in archaic symbols that has been handed down for generations and is very dear to the community, the Historic Centre Festival (in August) and the Mountain Festival that combines the colours, flavours and beauty of autumn in the mountains.
