Valsavarenche

Overview

A fair chunk of the Gran Paradiso National Park falls within the territory of the Valsavarenche: a valley that runs south from the Aosta plain, climbing until it reaches almost 4,000 metres of altitude and some important Alpine peaks, such as Grivola and Tresenda. The Savara River hydrates the Valsavarenche and flows through unspoilt landscapes, ideal for summer hikes but also for winter activities in the snow.

The Gran Paradiso National Park is also known for the wildlife that calls it home, especially in the Valsavarenche area. The ibex is the best-known resident and the symbol of the park, but there are also other species, albeit more elusive and difficult to spot, such as wolves, chamois and bearded vultures, very large birds of prey. These animals roam wild among the lakes, streams and high-altitude waterfalls of the Valsavarenche in the Gran Paradiso National Park, one of Italy's most beautiful natural areas.
