Valgrisenche

Overview

From its northern entrance, at the height of what remains of Montmayeur Castle, to its southern end, near the artificial lake of Beauregard, the green Valgrisenche measures about 15 kilometres.

This short stretch of road condenses some of the most picturesque views of the entire Aosta Valley. Valgrisenche has undergone a lower level of building pressure than other areas in the region: following the many hiking trails up the mountain ridges towards the Rutor Glacier you can spot animals characteristic of the Alpine landscape.

Alternatively, for a more relaxing day in Usellières you can set up a tasty picnic based on typical Aosta Valley products: lard and motsetta, tome and fontina, or maybe some tegola, a typical hazelnut-flavoured biscuit.

What is a colourful alpine valley in summer is coloured snow-white in winter, under the heavy snowfalls that affect the area: Valgrisenche becomes a paradise for ski mountaineering and snowshoeing. At colder times of the year, you can then take the opportunity to wear one of the Valgrisenche draps, warm, colourful woollen fabrics produced here for a long time.
