Saint-Pierre Castle

Overview

Located on the left bank of the Dora Baltea River, about 10 kilometres west of Aosta, the Aosta Valley town of Saint-Pierre is best known for its castle of the same name.

Set within a charming landscape, adorned with vineyards and apple groves protected by ancient dry stone walls, Saint-Pierre Castle rests on top of a rocky outcrop. Its four magnificent corner turrets were positioned above a pre-existing structure by Camillo Boggio, the architect who coordinated the castle's architectural renovation in the 1800s.

If the exterior of the fortress already merits a detour, due to its beauty and size, the exhibition route installed inside Saint-Pierre castle is no less impressive. This is the site of the Efisio Noussan Regional Museum of Natural Sciences, which guides visitors on a discovery of the fauna, flora, glaciers and mountains of the Aosta Valley. The museum also has no lack of panels and objects dedicated to the history of Saint-Pierre castle, which has passed on to different owners over the centuries.
