Roseto degli Abruzzi

Overview

Roseto degli Abruzzi is one of the most beautiful and fascinating tourist destinations in Abruzzo.

Fine sandy beaches, delicious traditional cuisine and the evocative landscapes of a lush nature reserve make Roseto degli Abruzzi one of the liveliest and most unique towns on the Adriatic coast.

A rich local and traditional culture offers the opportunity to participate in numerous popular festivals, cultural, musical, sporting and general entertainment events.

Formed from the ancient nucleus of Montepagano, the hamlet located on a hill north of the mouth of the Vomano river, the \'lower part\' is developed in a flat area overlooking the Adriatic Sea through a splendid beach complete with all services. The slowly degrading seabed has granted Roseto degli Abruzzi the Blue Flag since 1999.

While the coastal core only began to develop in the mid-19th century, the ancient centre of the city, Montepagano, has mediaeval origins. Driven by the ferocity of Turkish incursions, the inhabitants of the coast decided to shelter on a hill and build their village there: the name Montepagano actually derives from the Latin words \'mons\' and \'pagus\', or \'village on the mountain\'.

In addition to the Blue Flag, for the quality and cleanliness of the waters, Roseto degli Abruzzi also holds the title of Green Flag, for the best beaches equipped for children. There are also free beaches where you can sunbathe in peace in a still-natural environment, in unspoilt nature.

The promenade also offers excellent opportunities for relaxation and leisure all year round: restaurants, bars and clubs liven up the evenings in the lower centre, where you can go for a nice walk or bike ride thanks to the cycle path, part of the \'Ciclovia Adriatica\' circuit.
