Regional Nature Reserve Cascate del Verde

Overview

Green oasis in the Abruzzo Apennines

Unspoilt nature, scenic trails and fast-flowing streams. You can find this and much more in the Regional Nature Reserve Cascate del Verde, a WWF Oasis since 1997 on the border between Abruzzo and Molise. Covering an area of around 287 hectares, the area takes its name from the Rio Verde stream, which flows through the middle Sangro Valley and is the park's main attraction.

With a drop of 200 metres, the Cascate del Verde waterfalls are the highest in the Apennines and the most impressive in the whole of Italy. Easy to reach via the well-marked main path, they are an impressive spectacle of nature: impressing you with their roar, the force of their water jets and their dizzying height.

Let yourself be tempted by the many trails in the reserve, such as the "Vecchio Mulino" or "Natura" trails, to immerse yourself in the flora and fauna that inhabit the area.

To gain access to the Reserve, leave your car at the free car park at the entrance and buy your ticket at the ticket office. Here you will also find picnic tables, a barbecue area and a play area for the little ones.
