Pescina

Overview

Between the Abruzzo, Latium and Molise National Park and the Sirente-Velino Regional Park, in an evocative and uncontaminated natural setting, lies Pescina, an ancient villagein the province of Aquila, that recounts the still-visible medieval influences in the town planning and architecture of its historic centre. If the remains of the ancient Cyclopean walls tell of prehistoric settlements, the more recent history is encapsulated in a symbol: the Tower that dominates the centre and that rises from the remains of the old castle of 'Rocca Vecchia' that belonged to the Piccolomini family. But there is also another tower that fascinates those who stand in front of it and that is the Tower of Venus dei Marsi, dating back to the 13th century. And, like so many small jewels of art and spirituality, numerous churches dot the historical centre, to be wandered through, losing oneself in the details of this beauty.

For lovers of literature is not to be missed the house-museum Ignazio Silone, where the writer was born
