Campo Imperatore

Overview

Campo Imperatore, also known as "little Tibet", is the vast plateau that stretches for 27 km in the Gran Sasso National Park, between 1600 and 2100 metres above sea level. In winter, it is a favourite destination for those who love skiing, in summer it is the ideal place for trekking enthusiasts, who have many paths leading to the peaks of Corno Grande, Mount Aquila and Tramoggia, or to the Church of the Madonna della Neve, Lake Pietranzoni, of glacial origin, and the monument to the shepherd Pupo Nunzio, in the Fonte Vetica area. Finally, a major botanical garden and the Astronomical Observatory of Abruzzo, among the most important in southern Europe, are worth a visit.
