Cappadocia

Overview

A village located in the heart of the Marsica region, at an altitude of about 1,000 metres, Cappadocia has a mountain soul and enchants with its landscape: Cappadocia is in fact the natural entrance to the Simbruini Mountains Park, a pleasant and fascinating place.

If the oldest part of the village still retains traces of its medieval past, with narrow streets and stone houses, its main characteristic is the presence of numerous caves in its territory.

The most particular one, the Grotto of Beatrice Cenci, within which there is also an archaeological site, is linked to an ancient story: it owes its name to a Roman noblewoman who was executed in 1599 for patricide, later becoming a popular heroine for the terrible story that led her to carry out the dramatic act.

Not far from the cave it is possible to visit the Ovido di Verrecchie, a vertical cavity of over 300 meters inside which a huge stream flows and, during winter and spring, is adorned with a waterfall.
