Overview
On 1 January 2025, the solemnity of Mary, Mother of God, the Holy Father will open the Holy Door of the Papal Basilica of Saint Mary Major. This is a highly symbolic way to reaffirm the importance of the Virgin in the History of Salvation: Mary, the "Theotokos" in whose womb the Word of God became flesh. It is certainly an important concept for this Jubilee, which falls on the 1700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea.
