Giocars - Museum of Toys in Motion

Overview

If you are near Bologna, you cannot miss out on a visit to this unique place that will leave you speechless!

To define Giocars as a mere museum is reductive. Giocars is a parallel world where you can admire how man's progress in the study of movement, the motor up to robotics, has also been reflected in the seemingly minor field of gaming.

An author from the early 20th century said that, "Human civilisation arises and develops in play, as play", and he was indeed right: it is in the spirit of play that children, and also adults, learn the rules of life and develop solutions and new ideas!

This is the spirit that drove Adriano Guidi to continually search for objects, now forgotten, that are now part of the Sala Bolognese museum's great collection.

Common denominator of the wonderful objects collected is going, carrying. These basic human needs, expressed by all possible mechanical means, also become, in a natural twist, children's games.

Merry-go-rounds, sedan chairs, carriages, cars, tricycles... an array of beautiful objects all in perfect working order. Varied shapes, simple and complex at the same time, and bright colours introduce us into the magical world of their makers and make us dream thinking about the people and children who used and enjoyed those objects.
