Cecina

Overview

A marvellous seaside destination surrounded by nature and history

Located in a gentle plain in the heart of the Etruscan Coast, in an area with a wealth of parks and botanical and wildlife areas, Cecina stands out among the municipalities in the province of Livorno. Looking out to sea, with a Blue Flag coastline lined with charming beaches and pristine coves, it is rich in monuments, prized buildings and archaeological sites that will thrill history lovers.

In fact, ancient Palaeolithic, Etruscan and Roman artefacts have been found on its soil, which you can enjoy at the Archaeological Museum, which also includes a detached venue, the Villa Romana di San Vincenzo. Located close to the historical centre and offering an unmissable opportunity, it dates back to 30 BC and belonged to Decius Albinus Cecina, a member of the noble Cecina family. The villa is set in a beautiful park and inside you can admire the underground cistern, which was built for collecting rainwater. Other finds recovered here are displayed in the Private Luxuria exhibition.

Also of great interest is the Gallorose Park, a zoological garden surrounded by nature. Lovers of sea life will delight in the three wonderful beaches: Le Gorette north of the port, Cecina Mare beach and the Parco Naturale dei Tomboli di Cecina beach, all open and beautiful.
